How to Charge Two 6V Batteries Wired in Series for 12V
Question:
Hi I want to use two 6 volt batteries in my boat wired to yield 12 volts. Easy to do I know. My issue is charging them. I have a Minn Kota model 220 , 12 volt, onboard charger on the boat. Is there a way to safely and effectively charge the this system? The manual for the current charger says 12 volts. I’m hoping the positive lead on one battery and the negative lead on the other battery would work. Charging them both together as one 12 volt battery. Suggestions? Thanks

You are correct. With your two 6V batteries wired in series to get a 12V output, you will simply charge them using a 12V system like the CTEK # CTEK56353 as if they were a single battery. The charger will connect to the positive terminal on the lead battery and to the negative terminal on the second battery in order to charge both at the same time.
