Is Replacement Trailer Side 7-Way Connector # H20046 Male or Female
Question:
I need a wire harness on my pop-up camper and I am looking at buying the Hopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector with Molded Cable - Trailer End - 8foot Long - RV Standard - H20046 . The plug on this looks like it is male in the picture. My current wire harness has female contacts in the plug and my vehicle has male contacts. Are the contacts on this plug female?

Expert Reply:
The Hopkins 7-Way connector, part # H20046, is a male connector. The trailer side is the male end because it inserts into the vehicle side. This is somewhat misleading because usually a male connector has prongs and vehicle side trailer connectors have the prongs even though it is a female connector.
I've never seen a vehicle with a male trailer connector. Likewise with a female on a trailer. Take a look at the pictures I've attached and see if they match the type of setup you have. Part # HM48480 is the vehicle side female connector and part # H20046 is the male trailer side connector that you mentioned.
If you're still unsure if this works for you send me pictures of what's on your tow vehicle and trailer.
