2016 Honda Pilot Touring Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation
Question:
Im looking at buying a 2016 Honda Pilot Touring. I want a trailer hitch for light towing and this does not have one. In fact, it is NOT even a factory option. Honda has trailer hitches and wiring harnesses, but they are a dealer installed option for which they charge a lot. You folks seem to have a handle on these issues, but I am confused about an earlier post on your web site...in which you referred to the factory installed trailer package. THere is none. So, does Honda at least have an unused plug so that cutting and splicing is not necessary. I am interested in overload protection, with a standard four prong flat plug and a 3500 pound or better hitch with 2inch receiver that is easy enough to install that I can do it with ordinary socket tools. Thanks.

For your 2016 Honda Pilot the Curt hitch part # C13146 is a confirmed fit and would work well for what you need. It is a 2 inch with over twice the capacity you said you needed.
For trailer wiring the Tekonsha kit part # 118286 would be what you need. It's a 4-way like you said you wanted that taps into the vehicle's trailer wiring circuits and has circuit protection built in as well. Check out the install video I attached to see how it installs.
If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
