Question:
I'm having to replace entire hanger kit. What are the advantages of closer or farther axle spacing? My old suspension kit is using 24 inch and some equalizers for 48 inch axle spacing. I'm going to replace the old 2 inch springs with 2-1/2 inch springs. Anyway, do you recommend one spacing over the other? Try to achieve an 18k to 20k load capacity.

Expert Reply:
There is not a recommended space between axles to achieve a higher load capacity. The best position for your axles is going to depend on the factors outlined in the attached diagram. Those weights and measurements are really going to be the deciding factor on what hanger kit you want; the Dexter Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # HAP-158-258-02 for 42" spacing or kit # HAP-158-258-03 for 48" spacing.
