Proper Spacing Between the Hub Face and Spring Center Locations for 7,000-lb Triple Axles
Question:
I bought a flat bed goose neck 30 foot long at a auction where the factory had been shut down. The frame rails are 60 outside to outside is this trailer made for dulls? I had a set of trip axles I was going to put under it but it looks like a long ways from outside of frame to back of wheel. I have 7000 lb straight dexter axles. When I got them home the spring pads are about 6in to far out on each side of the frame. The frame is 60 in outside to outside. Im afraid if i move the spring pads that much in it will weeken the axle and be likely to bend. I have talked to several people some say the frame was made for dulls some say it's to wide. I don't know what to do with it. The frame is very well built so someone had a plan I just can't figure out what it was. Any help would be appreciated.

When you replace the axles on a trailer you will look at the (A) hub-face-to-hub-face and the (B) spring-center-to-spring-center measurements and choose an axle that has the same measurements that your current axle does.
Since you are wanting to add new axles to a trailer bed that has never had axles installed before you will need to make sure that the hub face is not too far away from the spring centers (as you mentioned). Your can adjust the spring seats on your 7,000-lb axles by having a professional welder do the work for you as long as the difference between the hub face and spring center measurements are no less than 13" and no more than 18". If the adjustments that need to be made put this measurement outside of the 13" - 18" range then you will need to look at getting new axles that are the correct length for your new trailer bed.
If you are planning on using all 3 axles for the trailer you will need to make sure that you have the following equipment:
6 - Double-eye springs
2 - Front hangers
4 - Center hangers
2 - Rear hangers
4 - Equalizers
16 - Shackle straps
24 - Shackle bolts
6 - Spring seats (if needed)
6 - U-bolt sets (12 U-bolts)
6 - U-bolt plates
You can find all of this equipment on our website - you will just need to choose the appropriate sizes and lengths for your application.
