How to Pick Out Weight Distribution for 2017 Ford Raptor Towing 7,600 lb Trailer
Question:
Hi, I have a 2017 Ford Raptor Super Crew. I want to improve its handling for towing near its maximum capacity 8,000lbs. My trailer boat and trailer will weight about 7600lbs. I am thinking about the Equal-I-zer WD EQ37100ET system with 10,000 lbs GTW. Another option is the same hitch in the 12,000 lbs GTW configuration. Would the 10,000 configuration make more sense and have a less harsh ride than the 12,000 or should I the greater margin of the 12,000 lbs hitch? Also, I am also considering adding rear Sumo Springs to improve the suspension travel. Would you suggest the 1,000lb Sumo springs or the 1,500lb springs? I dont tow that much so Im concerned about having a smooth ride the 95 of the time I will not be towing. Thanks in advance!

When picking out a weight distribution system ideally you go with the one that has a tongue weight range where your trailer's tongue falls right in the middle. So your tongue weight is going to be between 760 lbs and 1,140 lbs.
Which I would think the boat trailer would have a tongue weight more on the lower side since most of the weight is carried at the rear of the trailer (the motor is located at the rear).
The part # EQ37100ET should work well, but you might first determine your loaded tongue weight considering any weight behind the rear axle as tongue weight as well and then decide if the part # EQ37120ET is a better choice. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight as well.
With a properly rated weight distribution system that is also properly set up you would not need a suspension enhancement setup.
