Installing A Tekonsha Brake Controller On A 2007-13 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra With ITBC

Question:

I have a 2010 3500 duramax with the integrated trailer brake system and was told that if I put an aftermarket controller on it would always tell me service trailer brakes on my dic. If I follow the instructions on your site when I install my P3 and run the other wire will that keep the service light from coming on?

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 for a 2010 Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra can be installed by using the attached bulletin for GM trucks with factory-integrated brake control.The OEM on-board system is set up for GM's Integrated Brake Control. Therefore, when the OEM brake controller is disconnected, the on-board system thinks there is an issue with the trailer brakes and turns on the warning light. By bypassing the OEM brake controller wire in the factory harness, you will eliminate the issue that is causing the trailer brake service light to turn on.

When installing the new brake controller follow the video instructions, except for the hooking up of the brake control wire. When installing this wire follow the attached bulletin and attach a separate 12 gauge wire, # 10-1-1, that will be long enough to run form the brake controller to the 7-way plug at the rear of the truck. Try to us the same color wire so it will be easier to remember which wire is which. Also, make sure when you cut the blue wire at the 7-way plug that you leave enough length to allow for a good connection for the wire coming from the brake controller.
