Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 6,500 lb Trailer
Question:
I have just completed a 6000 mile trip with our RV and truck ... great trip but tired of the sway at 55-65mph. I have just ordered a tongue weight gauge from you folks. I am sure the way we have the trailer loaded for this road trips, the tongue weight is light, but after that is corrected I am thinking a new weight distribution system for future trips. Please advise what bar system is needed with the Reese Dual Cam High-Performance Sway Control unit. My trailer is a 2003 24foot Cougar RV trailer, current weight is 6500 loaded, dry weight is 6000. Pulling it with a 2011 1500 Dodge 2 wheel drive Pickup with Hemi engine.

Getting your tongue weight to be 10 to 15 percent of the total trailer weight will have the greatest impact in reducing the sway of the setup. Also having the trailer as level as possible will help too.
For a trailer that weigh 6,500 lbs the Reese Strait Line system part # RP66083 is going to be the best option as it has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs and features the dual cams you are interested in which fight to prevent sway before it starts.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
