Transmission Cooler for a 2009 Ford Expedition

Published 10/06/2016

Question:

Im looking to install a transmission cooler on a 2009 Expedition. I was looking at the Derale 13503 Series 8000 and was wondering if that was the best option or if you might have a different opinion? Also would the Derale 13025 Radiator Adaptor Fitting would fit my vehicle? In the summer we tow about 7,000 lbs. camper up to 3 times a month. Thank you

Transmission coolers such as # D13503 are not vehicle specific so you can install or have one installed that fits the space you have available in the engine compartment. If it were me though I would go with a stacked plate cooler, # D13403, because they are the most efficient and offer the most cooling.

With that said check to see if your transmission system is a closed system. If it is then there will be no dipstick to check the transmission fluid. Instead there will be a cap over the tube that leads down to the transmission.

There is a special tool required to open that cap to add more fluid. If your Expedition is like this then we recommend a professional installation. As far as I can find there are no special fittings needed for the vehicle.
