Can a 15 Inch Spare Trailer Tire be Used in Place of a 14 Inch in an Emergency
Products Featured in This Question
Question:
I have a trailer that came with P185 75R14 but the bolt pattern is an old 5 on 5 so I cant find any rims to use as a spare. Can I buy a 15 in tire with a 5 on 5 pattern just to use as a spare in emergency.? Otherwise I probably have to buy three new 15 in tires and rims.

Yes, you can get a 15 inch tire and wheel combo with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. I have included a link to the options for you. When you have tires of different sizes on a trailer you will want to correct the problem as soon as you can to avoid excessive uneven tire wear, tracking, and suspension problems. In a pinch though it would be fine.
You should know that the tires on your trailer are passenger vehicle tires. They are constructed differently than trailer tires. Trailer tires have a thicker sidewall to handle more vertical load. Passenger vehicle tires should not be used on a trailer.
The wheels on the trailer might also be vehicle wheels. The problem with that is that trailer tires for 14 inch wheels will be too large to fit 14 inch vehicle wheels like you have. I recommend replacing all of the wheels and tires for the best and safest results. The least expensive tire and wheel combo with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern is # AM32409.
