Helpful Expert Reply:
Curt trailer hitch # C13067 is rated for 400 pounds tongue weight. Since the combined weight of the scooter and carrier is 275 pounds the hitch has more than enough capacity for this application. But you also have to look at the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle.
It looks like at most the 2013 Ford Edge can have a tongue weight capacity of 350 pounds. It really depends on the specific model and whether or not the vehicle has the factory tow package. Models with the 2.0 liter motor are rated for 150 pounds tongue weight. Models with the 3.5 liter or 3.7 liter that do not have the factory tow package are rated for 200 pounds tongue weight. Models with the 3.5 liter and that do have the factory tow package are rated for 350 pounds tongue weight. You would need to have a 3.5 liter motor with the factory tow package to have enough capacity for the combined weight of the scooter and carrier regardless of what the hitch is rated for.
