Can a 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara Tow a 2016 R POD 179 Trailer

From what I was able to find the towing capacity of the 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara is 3,000 pounds when properly equipped. Consult the vehicle owner's manual to confirm.

The specs on the 2016 R POD 179 list a dry (unloaded) weight of 2,630 pounds with a gross capacity of 3,785 pounds. So provided you stayed under the 3,000 pound capacity of the vehicle (assuming that your specific model is rated that high) you could tow the R POD. However you will be near the max capacity of the vehicle, assuming you do not load it to over 3,000 pounds, so if you have a different, more capable tow vehicle I would use it instead of the Grand Vitara.

If you choose to use the Suzuki then you will need a trailer hitch such as # C13001 which is rated up to 4,000 pounds when using weight distribution. But since the vehicle is only rated up to 3,000 pounds you are still limited to that 3,000 pound capacity.

The Suzuki will likely squat when the trailer is connected so to level the vehicle you can use a weight distribution system such as # FA92-00-0450 and the 2" ball # 40038. The use of weight distribution does not increase the towing capacity of the vehicle, but it will take out the squat when towing and help with any sway you may run into.

If you do not use weight distribution then I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

And for trailer wiring you can use # 56002 to add a 4-Way flat trailer connector to the back of the vehicle.
