Can I Tow with a 2008 Toyota Yaris Hatchback

Question:

I have a 2007 Toyota Yaris Hatchback 3 door. I would like to pull a small trail with a 36 inch walk behind mower on it. Can I do that with this hitch? Also, one of the reviews said to get the powered wire kit... what is the powered wire kit? What is the alternative? Ive also seen something about tow bars? What are these and what do they do? Would this be good for a vehicle like mine?

All of the hitches we offer for the 2007 Toyota Yaris are Class I types intended for light-duty use, such as for attaching a bike carrier or cargo basket.

Based on my research the 2007 Yaris is not rated for towing (nor are certain other Toyota models such as the Prius). You will want to refer to your owners manual or speak to a local Toyota dealer for guidance before attempting to tow any trailer. Your Toyota dealer can provide information regarding any potential engine or transmission damage from towing with this vehicle.

If you confirm that your Yaris is in fact rated for towing you will then need to know the combined gross weight of the mower and its trailer. You will also need to know the loaded trailer tongue weight (tongue weight is the downward force applied to the hitch by the trailer). It is important that these two hitch ratings be observed. The two linked articles will help you with this.

Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch # 60209 is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4 inch. This hitch is rated at 2000 lbs. towing weight capacity with 200 lbs. tongue weight capacity.

This hitch will come with a ball mount and pin and clip. For towing, you will also need a hitch ball like the Tow Ready 2 Inch Hitch Ball # 19258 and the Draw-Tite Wiring Harness # 119178KIT. This wiring harness will power your trailer lights.

A tow bar is used to flat tow a vehicle, often behind a motorhome. I have linked to the tow bars we offer.
