Troubleshooting Reese Electric Brake Controller That Displays OL Overload Code
Updated 04/01/2015 | Published 03/31/2015 >
Question:
When I plug in with a 6 or 7 pole plug I get OL on the controller. When I put a 6 to 7 pole adapter on the trailer plug and plug in, the controller works properly and shows numbers. When I plug the 7 pole tow vehicle in on another 7 pole trailer I get numbers and no OL on the controller. Whats is wrong. Ive checked and tightened all grounds. Thank you.

The OL or Overload error code is displayed when the brake circuit is drawing too much current, possibly caused by a short on the brake wire or a poor ground connection at the brake magnets.
Your situation is a bit confusing so the best recommendation I can make is to try and find anything that could be causing a short on the brake output circuit when the setup gives you the OL code.
