Flat Towing a 1969 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser
Question:
What tow bar and mounting plates do you recommend to tow a 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser behind a Dodge Ram 2500. Would the mounting plates bolt onto the steel bumper or to the frame of the Land Cruiser? I have access to a Roadmaster Stowmaster 6000 lb tow bar but dont know if it is suitable or what else I will need to make it work.

Since we don't have a custom base plate kit for your 1969 Toyota Land Cruiser your best option would be a universal one like the part # BX88230. This will bolt to the steel bumper on your vehicle as long as it has the capacity needed to tow the vehicle you should be good.
The Stowmaster you referenced is not compatible with this base plate kit though so you will need to upgrade to a Blue Ox one like part # BX7420. This comes with safety cables that are coiled so they will stay off the ground.
For lighting you can use the bulb and socket kit, # RM-155, and not have to worry about cutting and splicing into the vehicle wiring.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system, # RM-9400, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
