Will a ST205/75R14 Replace a ST175/80R13 Trailer Tire

Question:

I currently have ST175/80R13 Trailer Tire w/ 13inch Silver Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2, I have plenty of height and width clearance, I would like to go to a ST205/75R14 Trailer Tire w/ 14inch White Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2. Will that rim fit the hub the same as my 13inch rim? the centre pilot looks like it is about 0.28inch of a difference from your web sight does that matter?

A ST205/75R14 sized wheel and tire like the part # TA82MR will eat up about an inch of vertical fender clearance and will be 30 mm wider than your current setup. It sounds like you have plenty of clearance though and this wouldn't be an issue.

Since both wheels have the same bolt pattern the new wheel would also bolt right up in place of the old one, and as long as your wheels attach with lug nuts instead of wheel bolts the center pilot hole diameter won't really matter.

I was told by Scamp that they don't recommend using 14" wheels because if a bump or pothole is hit there's not enough clearance in the wheelwell. Your thoughts?

Wheel well clearance is always the concern when upgrading to larger tires on a trailer. We recommend making sure you have at least around 4-1/2" of space between the top of the tire and the fender to allow for suspension travel. If Scamp advises against going up to 14" wheels it's likely because the existing clearance would end up being less than this. Unfortunately we don't have specs like this for specific trailers at our disposal, so you could take a couple measurements on your existing clearance to be sure.
