Brake Controller Adapter Incorrectly Pinned Out on 2003 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I installed the brake controller and harness model 20264. One of the wires I dont remember which onewas not connected to the plug that goes under the dash. This wire needed to intalled into the plug depending on the year and make of the vehicle.Anyway when I use the controller it only works when I manually turn on my headlights. Also, I tossed the directions. So, my questions is did I install the one wire in the wrong position on the plug? Please help!

It sounds as if the pin out on your adapter is incorrect. The red wire is the wire that was left loose. Remove the red wire from the pin location it is currently in, and then insert a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 into each empty pin location. Press the brake pedal while testing each location. You want to attach that red wire to the location that shows voltage only when the brake pedal is pressed. One of the pin locations goes hot only when the headlights are on, which is the one you have it in now.

I've linked you to some FAQ articles that I hope you'll find helpful.
