An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

Just finished installing Timbren's in the rear of my Ford E-450 motorhome. The installation was very easy. The hardest part was lifting up the motorhome so the rear tires were off the ground. I always install Timbren's on all my pickup trucks, and have always been extremely happy with them, so when I bought a motorhome, that was one of the first things I did. Because my motorhome came from the manufacturer with helper springs which increased the height or clearance, the Timbren's were not in constant contact, so I purchased and install a 1" spacer (part number A25723-90AH00). Now the Timbren's are in constant contact and will maintain the correct height and not sag under load. I love Timbrens!

My only concern is that the rubber springs don't line up in the center of the axial.

Would you be able to give more detail as to what exactly is going on? Would you mind sending a picture?

I have a 2022 E450 Sunseeker 2850.
Timbren
are the way to go. Progressive unlike sumo.
I emailed the folks at Timbren and they suggested the heavier duty ones. 12,500 lbs
I needed a 1” spacer. My buddy gave me his that we ended up not using on his 3/4 dodge short bed.
My goal was to have these barely touching when unloaded.
On pick ups you want that 1” space however, motorhomes are heavy and I wanted them to work all the time.
My goal was correct. The ride is fantastic. It takes 90% of the hard jolts away.
I believe these will make everything last in my motorhome longer. Things don’t rattle like a normal suspension.

Not a hard install. It took me a hour. Longer to get out the tools than to get it done.

by:

Package was damaged and the nuts and bolts where missing.
Called etrailer and they gave me a credit.
So got my own hardware and installed the product, it was easy to install except I had to raise the Rv frame by 8 inches in order to install it,good thing I have a 20t air jack .
We have not driven the Rv at this point, in a few days we will know more

by:
2017 Ford E-Series Cutaway

I just completed installation today. Directions could have been a little clearer but once I looked at it no problem.
Test drove about 3 miles and turned back one thing I noticed right away was ride was smoother.

by:

The product works exactly as described. The biggest benefit is the experience provided by etrailer.

by:

Very fast shipping, had product in 2 days! Very easy to install. Hardest part was lifting the RV.

by:

Install was not bad, it took me about 1.5 hours to get them on just because I was trying to get the bolt to stay on my socket. I placed a nut inside the socket so it would reach the threads, after that it was easy. First drive felt solid definitely excited to see how they do loaded or towing. will check back when I do.

by:

It's in it's working. I have no reason to complain.

I know it will be lovely when loaded or the trailer on. However,it rides like a wagon empty with brand new premium shocks and struts empty. Thud thud thud. You really cannot feel the shocks or suspension. Found exact same item plentiful for 60 bucks on eBay after I bought these for 250. I may cut these in half or put air bag on. I do not like the ride empty. No hard feelings. It is a good product maybe just not for me.

by:

About a 1/2 inch difference in gap at the bump stop perch but still within parameters. Truck sits perfect with trailer attached. Haven’t towed yet. After towing if they perform like they should will upgrade to a 5 star. Easy to install, definitely needed 2x4 and jack. 2011 Silverado ext cab with 30 ft Genisis 5th wheel.

by:

Was able to install these with a 15mm flex head ratchet wrench and lifted the rear of the truck to make it easier. 30 minutes to take off 4 nuts and put em back on. 2 minutes assembling the timbrens with the added spacer. I have a f350 with a salter and plow. Loaded with salt the lights shoot up and in the snow ?? it’s like hitting hyper drive and you’re blinded. These helped big time. Very happy so far.

by:

Haven’t had it on long, but so far so good. 1999 F350 dually. Bolted up nicely. Total job took 10 minutes. Have hauled two gooseneck loads of hay and truck drives SO much better. Nice and level. Money well spent so far.

by:

The pro: The longer, heavier bump stops worked great when hauling my mustang home from Chicago. The truck stayed level and handled great.
The con: I had to remove the bump stops for everyday use. They limited my suspension travel causing a stiffer ride.

by:

I am so glad I bought these for my truck. I was able to install them myself using a jack and jackstands. The ride is bit rougher now; but the suspension is totally awesome compared to before. I am able to haul a bit more weight when needed.

by:

very good product ,received just in time and fit perfectly on my GMC savana 2000 .Be sure to clean the two receptacle thats help.
très bon produit , reçu dans les délais et s'ajuste parfaitement . Assurez-vous de nettoyer le receptacle cela facilite l'installation.

The timbrens actually did what they were suppose to do. However, once I starter driving out west I notice the timbrens were riding on the axle which cause the speedometer to jump around depending on the road. I would recommend them if you are hauling or towing a camper or RV. I was going to contact etrailer about maybe removing a spacer for one set however the other set came as one unit. The bottom line is the Timbrens does stabilize your load for safe travels. I will be contacting etrailer soon to assist in correcting the problem...Road trip from Idaho,Colorado,Wyoming, and Utah were beautiful... Thank you etrailer

by:

Definitely a must have when towing..stiff without a load but night and day difference while towing my travel trailer, better traction, steering and braking. Easy quick install..only issue I had was with the long bolts they sent with the spacer kit (optional for lift) the bolt diameter was too wide to fit through the holes on the bracket..but a trip to the local hardware store took care of that.

by:

Pros: Cheaper and easier to install than airbags, do the job when load is enough to compress the shock, with added weight or towing, then it stiffens the rear very nicely.
Cons: Doesn't do anything until there is 2-3cm of compressed shock. It sits above the contact point, doesn't touch. Under normal driving, there is no benefit/improved stiffness/anti sway in rear or a leveling of the factory rear sag in a 2022 or newer Toyota Tundra.
If had it to do over, would have put some kind of spacer in between product and upper included bracket, the supplied bolt is long enough to accommodate, to eliminate the gap, and lift the rear 1-2 cm. Should do it anyway, maybe when swapping to summer wheels next month.

by:

I’d seen similar products rated in the 4,000 lb ratings but I went with these. I’m not a mechanic but I removed the factory bump stops and installed both these in 30 minutes or less. I used my rolling jack and lifted from the drop hitch and easily removed the old ones and soapy water and 1/4 twist and these were on. Placed a block of wood in the space between these coils and lowered the jacks then pressed it with my tractor to confirm full engagement. I carry a lot of tools on a 2020 Chevy 2500 I do feel a bit of butt bounce on large bumps but other than that I’m very pleased.

by:

The order with Will at etrailer was great. He was very helpful and knowledgeable, Installation was not easy but not too bad, The hardest part was removing the factory pieces I removed them from below which was a blind nut removal operation. This is on a 2017 Mercedes Sprinter motorhome. After removal of the factory pieces I discovered that access is much easier on top between the tire and the mud flap, I turned the front wheels inward and they didn't have to be removed. The front of the motorhome had to be raised quite a bit to get the Timbren piece jnserted. Also I learned to tighten the bolt and nut in the Timbren bumper as much as possible before installation because there is no access to the bolt head when tightening the top nut to keep the bolt from turning, preventing tightening the nut.

  • Rear Timbren Kit and Sway Bar that Fits 2017 Forest River Forester 3011DS built on a Ford E-450
Since you have the Firestone Ride Rite kit part # F2153 installed on your 2017 Forest River Forester 3011DS built on a Ford E-450 chassis the only suspension kit that would fit with it would be the Timbren part # TFERSDLB. The SumoSpring kits that fit your RV would install in same place as your air bags. You should note that typically a second suspension enhancement is not needed or recommended. If you are maxing out your air bags and still not happy with support a rear sway bar might...

The Timbren rear suspension kit part # TFERSDLB is a confirmed fit for your 2015 Jayco Grehawk 29 MV and does not require the use of any additional adapters or spacers. These are going to work really well to provide a lot of suspension support since as you noted they do have a 12,000 lb capacity.

  • Recommended Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement For 2018 Thor Vegas 24.1 Built On E-450 Chassis
I would be happy to help! Since you already have the Timbren front bump stops installed on your 2018 Thor Vegas 24.1' Class A Motorhome built on the E-450 chassis there is no reason to replace them. I would keep them and just add the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TFERSD to the rear axle. This will give additional support to your rear suspension, and will further decrease the sway and body roll your motorhome has giving you a more enjoyable ride. I included a video of...

Installing new suspension enhancement really depends on what you want to achieve. If you are lookign for help when you are towing then using suspension enhancement like air bags will help. But if you are looking for help when you are driving to control sway and make the steering easier I recommend sway control. The feedback we get from customers is that they like the Timbren enhancement sytems more than the SumoSprings. The Timbrens I recommend for your Sunseeker are part # TFEF350 for...

  • Will The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement TFERSDLB Help With RV Bumper Bottoming Out?
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TFERSDLB, along with any other jounce-style spring, will not increase rear bumper on your vehicle to prevent bottoming out. This system is made to maintain the vehicle's factory ride height when weight is added, but it will NOT increase your factory ride height. If you only bottom out when you have weight on the back of your RV then perhaps this will in fact suit your needs. If your ride height looks to be lower than it should be then you...

If you are always towing with a vehicle such as your 2018 Forest River 3251 DS LE I'd go with the Timbren setup part # TFERSDLB that you mentioned. This installs easier and since it's maintenance free it's the easiest and best solution for you. Air bag kits like the # F22ZR work great but they are more ideal for someone who will sometimes be towing and other times not since you can more easily adjust the support you need. But if you are always towing then not ever having to worry about...
