All You Need to Know About the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers- Video
Speaker 1: Today, we're taking a look at the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for electric brake controllers. Now, this unit eases the installation of your electric brake controller. The custom connector end plugs into the built-in port beneath the dash of your vehicle, and then the other end plugs into the back of the electric brake controller. It's a really nice design. All the wires have this protective mesh that around it, so it protects the wires and it keeps them up and out of the way, so that way they don't interfere with any of the pedals or your feet. It's compatible with time delayed brake controllers like the Draw-Tite Activator 1, Draw-Tite Activator 2, Draw-Tite Activator 3, and the Tekonsha Power Track. It's also compatible with proportional brake controllers, like the Tekonsha Prodigy, the Tekonsha P2, the P3, the Primus IQ, and the Tekonsha Voyager. more
Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller Review- Video
Hi there hollers there. Today we're going to be taking a look at Tekonsha's Primus IQ proportional trailer brake controller. This brake controller is going to be your entry level into a proportional brake controller and even though this is entry into proportional, I would recommend it over most of your time delay modules, just to how much smoother your breaking experience is going to be with a proportional controller, because proportional means that it uses an internal inertia sensor to detect the movement of the vehicle. So as we hit the brakes and go to a stop, that inertia sensor is going to detect that loss of motion and it's then going to use that information to apply a signal to the trailer brakes at the back, which will apply them. But it uses this information to help match the application of the brakes, to what you're doing here in the vehicle. So that way, when you hit the brakes, you're going to get a softer brake application at the trailer if you hit the brake softly in the vehicle. And then if you need an aggressive stop, like an emergency stop and you hit the brakes hard here in the vehicle, it's then going to detect that quick stop and it's going to put out a hard, aggressive brake to your trailer. With your time delays, you're just going to have whatever you have your setting to on your adjustment. And then a few seconds after applying the pedal, it will then apply to that exact amount that you've got it set to. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2017 Chevrolet Colorado- Video
Speaker 1: Today in our 2017 Chevrolet Colorado, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ trailer brake controller for one to three axles, part number TK90160. So here's where our Primus IQ looks like when it's fully installed. Now it is a proportional brake controller, which means it's gonna apply our trailer brakes in the same intensity and at the same time that we apply the brakes in our vehicle. Now what our trailer brake controller is going to do is it's going to take the signal from our brake pedal, so when we press on it, it's gonna take that signal, following the wires, and it's gonna send it out to 7-way at the back, and it's gonna send the proper signal from the back of our 7-way to our trailer to our brakes and have the proper signal, and the right adjustments of everything. Now the CR brake controller is going to let us know that the brake controller senses that the trailer is connected so just a quick glance down, we can know if we're connected properly or if there's any issues at the back. The button on top here is going to be for our boost setting, and we're gonna have three different boost settings. It's gonna be off, one, two, and three. more
Today on our 2005 Chevy Colorado, we'll be installing the Takonsha Primus IQ trailer brake controller, part number TK90160. With this brake controller, we will be using the universal 7-pin wiring kit, part number ETBC7. We'll start at the rear of the vehicle. On this particular vehicle, there was already a 4-way trailer connector installed. We will begin by finding a location to mount he 7-way and 4-way trailer connector. On this particular, we we're able to mount the bracket just under the bumper edge. To mount the 7- and 4-way trailer connector bracket to the bumper, we used 2 self-tapping screws. To make things easier, we will go ahead and make some of our wire connections on the table before we install the 7- and 4-way trailer connector up on the vehicle. more
Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2019 Chevrolet Equinox- Video
Shane: Hi, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today you're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to walk you through the installation on the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller on your 2019 Chevrolet Equinox with the Factory Tow Package. Most of the time when we think about a brake controller, it's on a larger vehicle, or on a big truck that may be pulling big trailers. On a smaller SUV like this, maybe you have a boat trailer that has brakes on it, or maybe you have a camper, a small camper that has brakes on it. Maybe you're going on a camping trip and you want to make more room for your passengers inside, so you want to put all your gear into a trailer and that trailer has brakes on it.You've pulled each of these things and without a brake controller you have felt the trailer as you're coming up to a stop pushing on the car. It's an uncomfortable feeling when you're coming up to the back of another car that's already stopped and it doesn't feel like your car is stopping. Adding a brake controller to the vehicle is not only going to make your driving experience much better, but it's going to make your passengers much more comfortable during the ride. The trailer brake controller is going to be a proportional brake controller, so when you apply the brakes in the vehicle it's going to apply the same amount of pressure in the trailer depending on how you have it set, whether that applies the brakes a little bit sooner or a little bit later. more
Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2016 Chevrolet Express Van- Video
Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Chevrolet Express we're gonna be installing the Tekonsha Primus trailer brake controller, part number TK90160. The Primus is gonna provide all of your necessary features for your entry level brake controller system. This is gonna more stripped down compared to some of your other models, it's only gonna have your primary functions that's necessary. It's got a digital display versus other models that may have an LCD however this one will still be able to provide you with diagnostic features as well as displaying voltage to your trailer during braking. It provides a proportional braking system so the harder you brake the harder your trailer brakes will brake. This also works with the momentum of the vehicle so as it detects more momentum it does apply harder brakes in the back to stop your trailer at the same rate as your vehicle. There's no level adjustment required unlike some other models that may require you to drive the vehicle and set your level adjustment before the proportional braking will work properly. more
Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2014 Chevrolet Express Van- Video
Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Express we're going to take a look at and show you how to install that the Tekonsha Primus IQ trailer brake controller. This proportional controller works great for one of the three axles. Its part number is TK90160. To test out of brake controller will either hook it to our trailer or a simulated trailer and slowly operate our manual override lever. As we do, we should see the amperage and voltage boosting up in our tester. That's going to indicate to us that our brake controller is sending the signal to the rear. more
Today on our 2013 Chevrolet Express Van, we're gonna be installing Tekonsha's Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller, part number TK90160. And to help us complete this installation, we'll be using etrailer's universal installation wiring kit, part number ETBC7. This brake controller's gonna provide you with proportional braking for your trailer. And unlike some brake controllers, it doesn't have to be mounted completely level, it can be mounted 90 degrees up or down, which gives you a lot more options on where you could mount your brake controller. On the brake controller itself, you'll have an LCD display to output whether it's connected or not. "NC" would indicate not connected and just a "C", like we have here, shows that we are connected. more
Speaker 1: Today in this 2010 Chevrolet Express Van we will be having a look at, and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ trailer brake controller part number TK90160.To ease your install we'll be using universal seven way trailer brake controller kit, part number ETBC7.Here's what our brake controller looks like installed. Now what's great about this brake controller, is that this is a proportional brake controller, which allows us to slow down smoothly, and safely when we're towing a trailer, and our brakes are being applied instantly versus with a timed delay brake controller, it's also not gonna give you a jerky ride like a time delayed brake controller would. Now the reason you're gonna want a brake controller such as this one is if you're towing a trailer that has electric brakes, you won't be able to control them without having a brake controller. Now what sets this brake controller apart from other proportional units on the market is not only is this a very high quality unit, but it's also a very simple one to use without a lot of overly complex features. This gives you the basic functions that you need in order to safely, and easily utilize trailer brakes. To our right we have our manual override, and what this does, this will apply our trailer brakes to the maximum level that we have set the further we press it in.The reason you want a manual override is because if your trailer starts to sway behind you, or starts to jackknife, you would want to slow the trailer down, not your vehicle, that'll make things worse. So by applying this, only the brakes on the trailer will be applied without you applying your vehicle's brakes.Over here to the left this is our gain adjustment knob. This knob here controls how much power is being sent to your trailer brakes. Right now if it's set all the way up you see our display reads at 11, and we start to roll it back it'll start to drop back down all the way down to zero, which means no trailer brakes being applied.General rule of thumb, you want to start it somewhere in the middle, so about five and a half will be ideal. more

Today on our 2005 Chevrolet Express van, we'll be installing the Tekonsha Primus IQ trailer brake controller for one to three axels. Part number TK90160. To begin with, we'll go ahead and locate the four wires that are part of the factory tow package on this vehicle. You'll see they're right up here underneath the driver side dash, kind of near where the brake pedal is. On our brake controller, we get a short pigtail and it has four different color wires: a black, a red, a white and a blue. We'll go ahead and connect them using some butt connectors, so we'll be tying the blue wire off of our connector that goes in the back of the brake controller to the large blue wire on our factory wiring harness. The black wire off of our brake controller will tie in with the red wire with the white stripe off of our factory wiring harness. more

We're already connected to our trailer, and when we're connected to our trailer, we have a C, which means we have a proper electrical connection between our truck and our trailer, which means everything's gonna be working properly. If there's a problem, NC will be displayed which means no connection. It either means you have a fault in your wiring on your trailer, or there's something wrong with your truck. Now what sets this brake controller apart from others in the market is its ease of use. more

This works for one up to three axles. Part number on it is TK90160. We're also going to be using the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for brake controllers, part number 3016. Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2010 Chevrolet Traverse TK90160- Video
Today, on our 2010 Chevy Traverse, we'll be installing the Tekonsha Primus IQ trailer brake controller for 1 to 3 axles, part number TK90160. The additional items we'll be using to complete the brake package hookup will ring terminals, part number 44-5356A. We'll also be using a total of approximately 35 feet of the jacketed 2 wire, in 12 gauge. It's part number 12-2-1. We'll also be using 2 breakers on the installation. We'll be using 1 inline 20 amp breaker, which is part number 9506P, and one 40 amp inline circuit breaker, which is part number 9510. Now, because this vehicle has already had an ETBC7 started on it, we're just going to need to do a little bit of clean up work. The purple wire will not be used, and we will just take that up out of the way, and we will take part of our duplex wire, which is a white and a black wire, and we will connect the black wire to the black wire here, using a butt connector. We will also go ahead and connect the white wire to the blue wire. Again, we'll go ahead and use a butt connector to make this connection. Now, once we have this connection made, we're going to go ahead and clean up the wiring back here by using some zip ties, and electrical tape. Now, we're going to need to go ahead and route the gray duplex wire to the front of the vehicle. You want to make sure you stay away from any moving parts, areas that are sharp, or may become hot. We're going to need to find a grommet or something to poke into the cab of the vehicle. Now, this grommet, when you go from the inside of the vehicle, is actually to the right side of the gas pedal. Now, when you push the white wire in through the grommet, we'll go ahead then and push the additional white and black wire, but we're going to leave it in the gray sheathing for now. Next, we'll need to fish a second duplex wire, along with the left over black wire from the original duplex wire, into the engine compartment under the hood. Underneath the pedals here, there's a kick panel, or a plastic covering, that will need to be removed. There are 3 push fasteners that will need to be removed in order for this panel to come down. A flat head screwdriver, or a trim panel removal tool, works great to get these out. The first duplex cable that we routed into the cab with the white wire will get wired to our brake controller. Now, for the red wire, we are going to use the factory tow section, and we will find which wire is only hot when the brake pedal is pressed in. As you can see here, using our test light, we find that the white wire is essentially the brake switch wire. more
Today on this 2006 Chevrolet Uplander, well be installing the Tekonsha PRIMUS Brake Controller, part number TK90160 and ETBC7 installation. We will connect black to black and the blue wire, we will connect it to our white wire. And then we will go ahead and install the loom and get it ready. Now, we will move on to installing the bracket for our 7-pole connector. more

Now, whenever you're looking for a brake controller for your Caravan, obviously you're wanting to pull a trailer that has electric brakes on it. Rob: Hey everybody, Rob here at etrailer.com, and today we're going to be taking a look at the Tekonsha Primus IQ brake controller on our 2013 Ford van. The Primus IQ is going to be a really good example of a traditional style brake controller, where we are going to have this small box mounted to the dash. Now I particularly like this one because it doesn't have too many fancy whistles, but it's going to do exactly what we need it to. It's going to send a signal from our van back to our trailer and apply the brakes. What's really nice is this is a proportional brake controller, which means it's going to be sending those signals in the exact same time and intensity that we apply the brakes they're going to send that to the van, opposed to some of the older style ones which we're time delayed, which there was just a preset time and then it would send the brake pressure back and apply the brakes. This is not going to be putting the brakes on if we don't need it. If we're sitting in a stoplight, have our foot on our brake, it's not going to be applying the brakes because it's going to realize that we're not moving. more
