Why Are the Cradles on My Swagman E-Spec # S94FR Coming Loose During Transport?
Question:
Thanks Bob for your reply. After reading some of the reviews it seems that others are having same issues. The knobs on my bike rack are tight so I don’t think the bolt is stripped. Do you have item # of the straps that hold tire in cradle? Also Bob, how about I replace the screw that is at the end of the tube to keep cradle from sliding off with a screw that has a larger head. One of the things to consider about the tightening knobs on your E-Spec # S94FR is whether the cradle knobs are actually tightening when you turn the knobs to the max. There should be no looseness in the knob and you should be able to press either left or right on the cradles without any movement.
If there is any looseness in the knob itself, this is a sign that the knob/bolt may be stripped or the shim needs replaced. We do sell the knob/bolt and shim as part # P197. Since this part comes with 1 shim and 1 bolt/knob, you need to order one of the # P197 for each tray that is having that issue.
As far as the positioning of the cradles, I confirmed with Swagman that the position of the cradles depends on your bikes' wheelbase length. I went ahead and attached a photo from the instructional manual that explains this.
