Which Converter Module is Recommended When Adding a 3rd Brake Light to the Rear of the Trailer

Updated 12/09/2014 | Published 12/08/2014

Question:

I have a typical 12v trailer wiring system running lights, left stop and turn, right stop and turn I want to add a third brake light to the rear of the trailer, so I need a module that will send 12V to the third brake light only when both stop/turn signals are active the brakes are on. Currently I can have the third brake light attached to one of the tail lights so that it flashes with one of the turn signals as well as coming on with the brakes. I tried a Pacer Performance 20-702 module made for this purpose, and strange things happened, the third brake light came on with either turn signal and it made the tail light that was supposed to be inactive flash as well. All the lights are LEDs

What you actually need is the Tow-Ready vehicle to vehicle taillight converter # 118158. It will convert your two wire system on your towing vehicle up to a three wire system to your towed vehicle.

On the input side of the converter # 118158 going to your RV you will match each function to the appropriate function of your trailer. To make sure you have found the correct wires for each function, use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test the wires. The output side gets connected to the wiring harness on your towed vehicle. You can mount the converter # 118158 at the rear of the towed vehicle.

I have included a video review for you too.
