Question:

I need a winch to lift 700 lbs vertically on a trebuchet. I have a system that uses a motor attached to a winch, but the winch is rated to only 1800 lbs. Ive used it for 10 years, and it is scaring me half to death. I can send pictures if that helps.

The winch I suggest you consider is Dutton-Lainson Heavy Duty Brake Winch # DL24844. With this you can use 25-foot winch cable # DL24047 for 2500-lb overall capacity.

Please note that this winch has not been tested in your specialty application so you will be on your own in terms of determining its suitability. Also note that winches should never be used to lift people or objects suspended over people. Winches are designed to lift, but not to indefinitely hold an object.
