Installing a Brake Controller on a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Factory 7-Way Connector

The 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee does not have the pre-wired port used for installation of a brake controller.

To install a brake controller on your 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a factory 7-Way you will need to do some hard wiring. The wire Jeep provides is the electric brake output wire that goes back to the 7-Way trailer connector. This wire should be a light green wire that is behind the fuse box in the cab of the Jeep. It will connect to the blue wire on the brake controller.

You will need to wire the black, white, and red wires on the brake controller. Both the black and white wires will be routed through the firewall, into the engine compartment, and over to the battery. You will need the Draw-Tite Brake Controller Wiring Kit, part # 5506.

You can attach the black wire from the brake controller to the black wire in the duplex cable. Then attach the white wire from the brake controller to the white wire on the duplex cable. You will then need to route the duplex cable through the firewall to the battery. Separate the two wires and connect the white wire to the negative battery terminal. Check your brake controller instructions to see which size breaker is needed and either connect the black wire to the included 30-amp breaker, or use a 20-amp breaker, like part # PK54220. You will then need to connect a wire from the breaker to the positive battery terminal.

Use a circuit tester, part # PTW2992, to find the brake light wire on the stop light switch located above the brake pedal. Find the wire that carries a signal only when the brake pedal is pressed. Attach this wire to the red wire on the brake controller. That should complete the installation of the brake controller on your Grand Cherokee.
