Question:
I am looking to purchase a trailer wiring harness for my 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo but I am not sure if the vehicle has the factory installed towing package. How can I determine this? It looks like there is a difference in the harnesses. Thanks

The final authority on whether or not a vehicle had a tow package would be a Jeep dealer for your 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Or, you can see if your vehicle has the connector behind the rear scuff panel in the rear cargo area and then test it with a circuit tester like part # 3808 to determine if it is active. For more info on where this connector is check out the installation instructions I attached to the right for the # C55260.
If it's there then the # C55260 would work as a wiring harness.
Now either way if you have the tow package or not the wiring harness that is recommended for vehicles without the tow package will fit your vehicle. For that I would recommend the part # C55349. This harness is a sure thing, I can guarantee it will work on your vehicle either way without having to check with anyone or have to find the connector before ordering.
The only disadvantage to the # C55349 will be a slightly more involved installation process.
