Recommended Brake Controller And Harness For 2002 Ford F-150

Updated 10/02/2014 | Published 10/01/2014

Question:

Im stumped ... we have a 2002 F-150 4x4 that came with a type 3 trailer hitch, which we have used for our boats 4 prong - no brakes but now were looking at a 13 foot travel trailer with brakes single axel - at under 2000 lbs . Anyway, we dont have a controller, Ive looked at all your videos and I still cant figure out where to plug one in, under the dash. Any suggestions? Thanks

Since you said you have a 4-way connector on your 2002 Ford F-150, I can make some recommendations that may be very simple for you.

I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885. This is one of our most popular brake controllers because it is easy to install and operate.

The harness you need is part # 3035-P. One end connects to the brake controller and the other end connects to the built-in harness located beneath your truck's dash, normally located to the left of the data port. You can check out the linked installation video that shows how the harness is connected and how the brake controller is installed on a Ford F-150. I have also attached a photo that shows the location

You can then move to the rear of your truck and use part # 118242. This will plug into the harness you will find on the driver's side frame rail. This will give you a 7-way connector at the rear of your vehicle.

I have attached a helpful article that explains brake controller installation for your truck.
