Is Weight Distribution Needed with Air Helper Springs
Updated 09/30/2014 | Published 09/29/2014 >
Question:
Hi, I added an airlift kit to my 2008 F150 with 4.2 Litre V6 and I am extremely pleased with it. Installation was a breeze, especially with the guides provided on the site. It also works great to eliminate sag when pulling a trailer. Prior to adding the AirLift kit, I used a weight distributing hitch. With the ability to level the truck with air pressure now, should I continue to use the weight distributing system, or is that now redundant and I would be better off with an anti-sway kit? I appreciate the advice - thank you.

It's great that you were able to get your 2008 Ford F-150 level with the use of airbags. Since the airbags have eliminated the sag you should be good to go without a weight distribution system.
For reference, here are a few other factors you may want to consider.
Any time your trailer weight (GTW) is more than 50 percent of your vehicle's weight (GVWR), we recommend weight distribution.
A few other considerations: Does the rear of your tow vehicle sag when the trailer is hooked up? Do you experience trailer sway? Are your tow vehicle headlights pointed upward? Do you find it difficult to steer or stop your rig? Do you want to tow to the highest capacity allowed by your vehicle's trailer hitch setup? If any of these apply I recommend you retain your weight distribution system.
Sway control is not absolutely necessary for towing but is a factor that needs to be addressed if the trailer is unstable behind the vehicle.
I have included a FAQ article on weight distribution for you to check out.
