Is a Transmission Cooler Thermostat Required for a 2011 Chevy Silverado in Texas

Published 09/16/2014

Question:

I recently installed your series 8000 transmission cooler in my 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a V6 and 4L60E. I also purchased your thermostat and mounting bracket as I thought this a good idea but havent installed it. Problem is, I LOVE what the cooler has done for my transmission temps dash display while commuting and I live in San Antonio, TX HOT summers and mild winters. Im thinking I dont want/need to install the thermostat and want to just run the cooler sans thermostat. I haul a pair of sport bikes and gear to the Ozarks about once a year but do not tow anything and this is a commuter, light duty truck. Im also thinking the OEM radiator/transmission cooler combo will heat up the ATF enough in the winter, yes ?? So, 1 Whats your opinion on running the cooler with no thermostat ? 2 How do I set up returning the thermostat and bracket for a refund ? TIA for your input.

Based on where you live you would not need a thermostat for your transmission cooler. Your thinking is correct, the OEM transmission cooler that is in your radiator will do a good job slightly warming up the fluid on a very cold day.

I live further north than you and I run my transmission cooler without a thermostat and have no problems at all.

I attached a link to the right that has our return policy for you to check out as well.
