Question:
I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 that Im looking to install a brake controller and 7-way trailer connection on. Currently the truck has a 4-way flat trailer connector. Can you tell me what exactly I will need to complete this install? Under the dash I have located the built-in port that I believe the Plug-In Wiring Adapter 3020-P would plug into. I was thinking of purchasing the Draw-Tite Brake Controller Part# 5100, so would those be the only two items needed for the controller install? As I mentioned, the truck currently has a 4-way flat trailer connector, so would I need item ETBC7 to convert that to a 7-way, or is there a more appropriate item available? Thank you!

Since you said you have the brake harness under the dash of your 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, you can use the Tekonsha Brake Controller Adapter, part # 3020-P with the Draw-Tite Activator Trailer Brake Controller, part # 5504. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to install a brake controller on late model Dodge trucks.
If you need to maintain a 4-way plug at the rear of your truck along with a 7-way connector for your trailer, I recommend installing the Universal Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. I have attached a link to a helpful article that explains how to install the # ETBC7 you can check out.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the connections and helps prevent corrosion.
