Question:
Concerned rack will damage the paint on my new car. Slight rubbing from motion while traveling down the road, dust, dirt, salt might get under the cushions when it rains or snows. Would like to use it to carry bikes down south in January. Would damage, scuffing, be likely?

I have a better solution for you, a hitch mounted bike rack would allow you to transport bikes without having anything at all contact the vehicle paint on your new Lexus EX 350.
For a hitch you would want the Curt Hitch part # C11362. You should note that Curt says all non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt. For that you would need the part # 18050.
For a bike rack our most popular option is the Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack part # S64670. This rack has a ton of positive reviews from ours customers and would work well for you. Check out the review video I attached.
