Question:

Hello I am pulling 25 foot Chateau Travel Trailer at around 5000 pounds. I need to the hitch about two inches. The units I need are 2 inch recievers. I am looking at the RoadMaster Dual hitch reciever adapter, is this built to handle that load? Thank you

The Roadmaster # RM-077-2 Dual Hitch Adapter isn't meant for towing a trailer, only for a rolling load like a vehicle being flat towed.

We do have other dual-hitch adapters, but using them will lower the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. If your existing hitch has a 600 lb tongue weight capacity, using an adapter of any kind would lower that to 300 lbs, which wouldn't be enough for your travel trailer.

There are some possible solutions, however. Curt makes a Multipurpose Ball Mount, part # D210 that would work well if a 2-1/4 inch drop would work for you. The unit has a 750 lb tongue weight capacity, and the upper receiver has a 350 lb tongue weight capacity. Depending on the year, make and model of your vehicle, there might be a dual-receiver hitch like the Torklift # TLD1108 available.
