Weld-On Swing-Away Tongue Options for a 1997 EZ Loader Boat Trailer

Published 10/14/2026

Question:

Hello, I have my 1997 EZ loader Stratos bass boat trailer that I’d like to add a swing away tongue to. In the picture you can see there is not much room on the tongue 3 x 4 frame between the A frame joint and the actuator portion to add one of these hinges to. It doesn’t seem a bolt on option would work. It looks like this weld on option may be my best bet. I want to make sure this option would likely work for my trailer. I also noticed there were other weld on 3 x 4 options by Dexter such as DX87VC. I wasn’t sure what the differences were between all of them. Appreciate your help.

Hey Jamal.

I do agree with you in saying that a weld on option is going to be your best bet. The # DX53CR is the kit that provides the two steel plates along with the swing assembly. I'm not finding any major differences aside from that in # DX87VC. So, if you're looking to add a swing away tongue to your trailer, I recommend going with # DX87VC as this option is more cost effective and will provide the clearance you're looking for considering this part is made to fit your 3" x 4" tongue.

Were you able to take the bass boat out this year?
