Looking For Replacement Slam Latch Assembly For 2012 Thor Astoria Motorhome

Updated 10/09/2026 | Published 10/08/2026

Question:

I have a 2012 Thor Astoria 36MQ. One of the slam latches on one of the larger doors is broken. I can climb in from the other side and remove its bolts to get it open, but dont want to do that until i know i have a replacement unit that will fit and function. Your site shows a variety of latch mechanisms but doesnt state what will fit my RV. Can you please provide a part number? I can send pics if that helps

Hi there Terrence, I can help you find the correct latch for your 2012 Thor RV.

From your description, it sounds like you're dealing with a baggage/compartment door slam latch rather than the main entry door.

A possible replacement is the Bauer Products Slam Latch # BA57FR, which fits a cutout about 4" wide x 3-1/4" tall. A lot of Bauer, FIC, Global Link, and TriMark-style compartment latches are in a similar size range, but the cutout dimensions can vary enough that I wouldn't want to guarantee fit without checking yours first.

The easiest way to verify it is to measure the actual rectangular opening in the door that the latch body passes through, not the outside faceplate. Measure the width and height of that cutout, and if possible send a picture of the front and back of the existing latch.

If your opening is close to 4" x 3-1/4", the # BA57FR is a strong possibility. If it measures differently, send me those dimensions and I can compare it to the other slam latches we carry.

There isn't a database that tells us what exact part number it is, but you could try reaching out to Thor to see if they have a database for that. RV manufacturers switch up parts a lot so it's hard to go off that though. Best route is to take a few minutes to remove the latch and get dimensions or send pics to me at the email you get this response from. I'm happy to look at pics to match something up that way if possible. Let me know!

Make sure you order the one with enough offset to have the latch work. I bought the one that was not offset and it did not work.

@RichK Thanks for the feedback Rich. That is a very good point that not everyone pays attention to if their RV nose isn't tapered.

If the etrailer rep told you the part was interchangeable based on the dimensions of the opening the part they suggested should be a direction replacement. The new part doesn’t come with the back/inside plate or screws. You will need to reuse those from your old latch. I face a like situation about 2 months ago. There new part worked for me. The contour of the face was more tapered than the old lock; otherwise, it was flawless and took less than 10 minutes to swap out the old for the new. If for some unforeseen reason the new doesn’t work etrailer should allow you to return the new latch.
