Is it Normal for Trailer Brakes to Feel Weaker When in Reverse

Question:
I have a 2009 36’ Featherlite Fifth wheel car hauler trailer that has tandem axels with electric Dexter brakes. It seems like the brakes only work when moving forward. Is this normal?

Hey Brad, it is very common for electric trailer brakes to feel much stronger when moving forward than when in reverse. This is just how the mechanism works unfortunately. Normally it's not a huge deal though since people aren't usually travelling too fast in reverse but I could see how it might be a little nerve wracking if your backing something up that weighs a lot.
