Hi Matt,

When the TorkLift GlowStep Stow N' Go Steps part # TLA7835 are full retracted and locked against the side of the camper for travel they stick out exactly 10 1/2 inches from the mounting surface. The depth of the mounting bracket itself is 8 1/2 inches and the extra two inches is from the thickness of the steps when collapsed.

Are you concerned about clearance when parking or storing the camper?

Making sure my bike rack can be used with the steps in place

@MattF That makes sense, if you don't have enough clearance you may need to look into an extender for the bike rack to push it out further. An extension does reduce the tongue weight of the hitch by 50%, so you'll want to make sure it can still handle the weight of the bikes and bike rack if you do need to use one.

On my truck camper, the only issue I had was when stowed, they will sag a little after a few bumps in the road. This was only a problem when towing my flat bed trailer. The landing gear housing would contact the bottom step when turning more than 35 deg. I solved the issue by just putting a cinch strap or bungee cord around the step assembly to prevent the sag. Otherwise, I have found the steps to be very sturdy and a good value. You will need to know how high you need to go. My truck is a 4X4 so the 5 step unit is good for me.

@KevinD Over time the vibrations can cause the pivot and hinge bolts to loosen which can cause the steps to tilt or droop when they're in the stowed position. Tightening the bolts and checking the mounting bolts as well may help reduce or completely eliminate the sag.
