Can Ark DC-DC Battery Charger Charge Lithium Batteries From Truck Alternator

Updated 09/30/2026 | Published 09/27/2026

Question:

I'm building out a new off-grid travel trailer with lithium batteries and want them to charge while I'm driving. Will the ARK46FR work with my lithium batteries?

Hey Jason! Yes, the Ark DC-DC Battery Charger # ARK46FR is compatible with lithium batteries and has a 50 amp DC-to-DC charging output. This is a great way to charge your trailer's battery bank from the tow vehicle while you're driving instead of relying on the limited charging you typically get through the 7-way.

This is also a great setup for off-grid camping since it has a built-in MPPT solar controller along with a smart shunt for monitoring your battery bank. It also uses vehicle-sense technology, so you don't have to run a separate ignition or D+ trigger wire to tell the charger when the vehicle is running.

Where are you headed once you finish the build?

Thanks, that sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. I'm planning on running a 400AH battery bank plus solar, so having the alternator charging, the solar controller, and monitoring all together should really simplify the setup.

@Jason absolutely, having everything integrated into one system really simplifies an off-grid setup. The # ARK46FR will pair nicely with your 400Ah battery bank and solar. If you need anything else don't hesitate to reach out!
