E-Bike Rack to Clear Spare Tire for 2025 Jayco Terrain

Updated 09/24/2026 | Published 09/16/2026

Question:

Hi, We have a 2025 Jayco Terrain 19YG. Wed like an e-bike rack for our two 38lb e-bikes weight with batteries. Van has a spare tire mounted on the driver-side rear door which sticks out about 12 from the hitch pin center. Spare tire holding bracket on drivers side is 17 vertically up from the hitch pin center. Are there racks which a would permit us to open the rear doors without a swing adaptor, at least when the bikes are off by being low or swinging down, b would hold the bikes normally when in use, and c would fold up when not is use, getting close to the spare tire? I suspect it requires a rack that has some extra room between the hitch and the first bike holder. Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill, great question. With the spare tire sticking out about 12 inches from the hitch pin and the mounting bracket sitting about 17 inches above the hitch pin, there are not any bike racks that will clear the spare tire, let you open the rear doors without a swing away option, carry both of your 38 lb e-bikes, and still fold up close to the spare tire.

The best option we have that checks the most boxes is the RockyMounts AfterParty Swing Away Bike Rack for 2 Bikes, Wheel Mount, 2 inch Hitches, part # RKY37ZR. It will give you the clearance you need around the spare tire and swing away to give you access to the rear doors, and it will securely carry your two e-bikes. The one limitation is that it will not have enough room to fold up against the vehicle with the spare tire in place.

I know that is not quite the all in one solution you were hoping for, but the AfterParty gets you the clearance and rear door access without needing a separate swing away adapter which is nice because it won't cut your tongue weight in half.

Would you prefer to prioritize being able to fold the rack up, or keeping the swing away rear door access?

I currently use the swing away on my F-150. It’s is the best bike rack I have used with regards to securing the bikes and using my tailgate. I have swung mine open with the bikes on it (two enduro analog mountain bikes weighing around 30lbs each) without difficulty. However make sure the cehicle is not on a downhill because getting the bikes back around is a challenge on a slope. I would agree with Heather that there is no way to fold it up. It only has about 6” of clearance to my tailgate when folded up. It’s also a bit heavy to take on and off.

@Tim Great advice! Thanks for sharing your real-world experience with the AfterParty. Hearing how well it works with bikes loaded and still gives you access to the tailgate is really helpful. What kind of bikes you hauling?
