Is The MaxxFan Dome Roof Vent MA00-03812W For Exhaust Only?

Updated 09/17/2026 | Published 09/15/2026

Question:

I have this installed in my vanMaxxFan Dome Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan - 6inch Diameter - Manual Lift - White- Is it possible to install a switch for it to reverse the flow of air- to drawing air in instead of pulling it out?

Hey Lori, thanks for reaching out. No, the MaxxFan Dome Roof Vent # MA00-03812W is designed as an exhaust-only fan, so MaxxAir does not offer a switch or approved modification to reverse it for intake. You may see DIY setups that reverse the motor polarity, but I do not recommend going that route since the fan and blade assembly were not designed or tested for intake operation. If bringing outside air into the van is important, I recommend replacing it with a vent that is designed with a factory intake/exhaust function.

What kind of camper is the vent installed on?

@LoriM Ok gotcha. If you need a reversable fan you will be looking at a larger vent assembly for a 14" x 14" roof opening like the MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent w/ 12V Fan, Thermostat, and Remote # MA00-07500K. This has a reversable fan so it will do what you need it to, you'll just need to modify the vent opening.
