Armrest Height for Thomas Payne RV Jackknife Sofa

Updated 09/14/2026 | Published 09/06/2026

Question:

How high does the armrest stick up? I’m looking for a replacement jackknife couch for my camper. When I lay the couch down I have a Murphy bed that lays down on top of it and want to make sure the armrest won’t be in the way.

Thanks for reaching out Sarah. I've done quite a bit of digging, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a published measurement for the exact height of the armrests on the # TP86KR. I even went down to our warehouse to measure the sofa myself, but the units we currently have are boxed and banded for shipping, so I wasn't able to open one up.

What I can confirm is that the vertical measurement from the base of the seat to the top of the back cushion is 15". Based on the photos and proportions of the sofa, I'd estimate the armrests are approximately 3" to 4" tall at their highest point. Keep in mind that this is only an estimate since I wasn't able to physically measure them. The armrests also don't appear to have the structural support you'd find on a traditional couch arm. They should compress and flatten fairly well when your Murphy bed is lowered on top of them.

We do carry jackknife style sleeper sofas without armrests, which may be a better option if clearance with the Murphy bed is a concern.

Do you know the overall width of your existing sofa? Is there a specific color you are trying to match?

Jack Knife Sofa: If you’re referring to the arm rests on each side of the unit, they’re only are about 3 inches up from the couch seat.
