Kayak Trailer Recommendation for Carrying Fathom Kayak

Question:
I have a fathom 16.5 ft kayak and a set-on-top 15.5 ft kayak. I am look a trailer that can handle two kayaks and that can be used on the highway. I see the Maone Microsport, which looks nice. Also what is the difference between transporting a kayk on a J-hook vs a low bed trailer, does that make a difference on the highway? My Truck is a 2026 GMC 1500 Sierra, short bed, crew cab.

Hey Mike, welcome back! The Malone Microsport Kayak Trailer part # MAL47ER that you referenced is a really great option and will work great to carry both of your kayaks and can easily go highway speeds without any problems. This will be a lot easier to load than putting the boats up onto the roof of your truck which is pretty tall.
J-hook style carriers are great for loading up on top of a vehicle roof rack as they are easier to lift a kayak up into. The saddle style carrier that is on this trailer also can work great on a roof rack but I think it's the way to go on a trailer like this unless you are just wanting to maximize space and fit as many kayaks as you can. Where do you usually take your kayaks?

Hi Jameson, After further consideration I decided not on. Trailer. I do not have a place to store it. I plan to sell my 15ft feelfree kayak, so I will only have my Eddyline Fathom kayak and fiberglass paddle board. Now I am looking for tri fold aluminum bed cover for my 2026 GMC 1500 short bed.And adjustable rack system like the Elevate FS Rack system that connects/ slides into T-slots to the cover. I do not use the bed cover that often so the manual retractable is nice but expensive.
