Question:

I watched the video for the installation of a Derale model 13504 on the 2003 Yukon XL. I have a 2004 Chevy Tahoe so the radiator and grill mounting hardware as seen in the video are identical. Your website recommends that I also purchase a radiator adapter - part no. D13035. This was not used in the video. Instead the return radiator transmission line was cut and both trans cooler hoses were connected at that point. Why wasnt the adapter used if it is suggested for my installation? If I use this adapter for the radiator and connect the hose to the trans cooler to it, can I just connect the other trans cooler hose to the fitting that came out of the radiator I dont think I can get a hose over the fitting. Also - the video shows that the cooler is only supported by two screws mounted to a support crossing at the bottom of the cooler. Im afraid that there would be a lot of vibration and the top end of the cooler hit the condenser. Do you recommend the mounting kit as well? Thanks.

The adapter, # D13035, is recommended for use so you do not have to cut and flare the lines. It just so happens that in the video you mentioned our installer chose not to use the adapter. This is acceptable if you do not mind cutting and flaring lines but most people do not own the proper tools to flare steel lines (though you could borrow a tap and die set from an auto parts store). Aluminum lines could be flared with a screwdriver.

I have linked a video that does show our installer using the fitting # D13035.

The path of the fluid needs to go from the transmission, to the factory cooler, out to the new cooler, and then back to the transmission. This is whether you are cutting and flaring lines or using the special fitting.

Transmission cooler # D13504 comes with a mounting kit. It is similar to wire ties and they go through the radiator or AC condenser in some cases for a secure fit.
