Recommended Gen-Y Pin Box on a 2022 Brookstone 374rk 15.5 lbs GVRW Pin Weight 3,410 lbs

Updated 08/05/2026 | Published 07/29/2026

Question:

I have a 2022 Brookstone 374rk. Pulling with a 2020 f350 drw. Currently have a bandw companion hitch but I despise changing the hitch every time i want to pull my livestock or flat bed trailer. My trailer supposedly weighs around 15500 with a pin weight of 2500. Which hitch do you recommend, specifically looking at the gen y hitch just not sure which model. Bolt center on my current pin box is 7 7/8.

Hey Tim, thanks for providing the measurements and photos!

I don't blame you for wanting to simplify switching between your fifth wheel and your livestock or flatbed trailers.

Your measurement of 7-7/8" horizontal bolt spacing and the photos you provided tell me your trailer uses a Lippert 1621/1621HD pin box pattern. With your 2022 Coachmen Brookstone 374RK and its 15,500 lb GVWR, I'd recommend the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY38FR. It's designed to replace the Lippert 1621/1621HD pin box and it's the correct match for your Brookstone's 15,500 lb GVWR.

This will let you tow directly from your truck's 2-5/16" gooseneck ball, so you can leave the Companion out of the truck and make switching between your fifth wheel, livestock trailer and flatbed much quicker.

You'll also need the Gen-Y Safety Chain Kit # GY49GR if you don't already have a set, since safety chains are required when towing with a gooseneck.

If you have the identification sticker on your current pin box, I'd still be happy to verify everything for you. Based on the information you've provided, though, I'm confident that # GY38FR is the correct replacement.

Have you had any issues with chucking or rough ride quality while towing the Brookstone or is your main goal simply making it easier to switch between trailers? Also, what kind of livestock trailer are you pulling?

The Gen-Y hitch is great but I did have to change my standard gooseneck ball {that tucks away in the bed) to an offset gooseneck ball because the hitch brought the trailer too close to the cab of my truck. I have a Ram 2500 with a standard size bed.

@Dean that's a great point. Cab clearance can definitely vary depending on the truck and bed length. An offset gooseneck ball can be a great solution on some short bed trucks where additional turning clearance is needed. Thanks for stopping by and if you have any questions, just let us know!
