Upgraded Equalizer for Tandem Axle Trailer With 6-1/2" Long Standard Equalizer

Updated 07/28/2026 | Published 07/22/2026

Question:

My current Equalizer measures 6.5inch eye to shackle eye.... This matches the measurement for a cre3000. I was wanting to use the dexter setup but noticed the measurement for both options are not what I have currently. My axels are 7000 lb and tandem. That would seem to dictate that i use this equalizer as it is designed for up to 8000 lb axels. Is this a good fit for my situation?

Hey Chase! You definitely want to get as close as you can to that 6-1/2" measurement so you don't throw off your suspension geometry. The MORryde Rubber Equalizers # MR87ZR are going to be the best option for a replacement since they also measure 6-1/2". The Dexter kits are either too short or too long, and you really won't notice a difference in performance between those and the MORryde.

I also recommend adding the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers while you're at it. The correct kit depends on the length of your existing shackle straps measured center hole to center hole. If you have 2-1/4" shackles you need # MR46ZR and for 3-1/8" # MR76ZR. This comes with wet bolts, bronze bushings, and 1/2" thick shackles for long lasting suspension components.

What kind of trailer are you working on?
