What Boat Winch Works Best for a 900lb Jet Skit?

Updated 07/16/2026 | Published 07/14/2026

Question:

Good morning!! I’m looking to change my JetSki lift winch. Jet ski weighs about 900 lbs. It’s cable driven. What would be my best option? I don’t need the cable. Mine now is super hard to crank with the wheel. Thanks for any help

Hey Ronnie,

I would actually recommend the winch you were looking at the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch w/Worm Gear part # DL10950. The # DL10950 has a 1,500lb capacity which is more than enough for a 900lb jet ski and the worm gear will self-lock and hold the weight for you when you stop cranking. If you're worried about having difficulty cranking the jack, I'd suggest giving the Dutton-Lainson Hand winch with Worm Gear and Hex Drive part # DL11011 a try. You can still operate it manually with the crank, but the hex drive enables the winch to be powered with a cordless drill with 5/8" socket in case you ever have difficulty cranking the winch again. It's rated for the same 1,500lbs of lift and powder coated copper bronze finish for corrosion resistance as the DL10950 as well.

What boat winch do you have currently?
