Question:
I want to mount my Strongarm electric winch to the floor bed of my truck. Im using it for my motorized kayaks up onto a bed extender and into the bed of my Tacoma. Will it be a problem if I mount it on a flat surface? And should I use/buy the mounting plate for it?

There's no problem with that at all Roxanne. You will definitely want to use the Dutton-Lainson Mounting Adapter Plate item # DL24055 though!
The Mounting Adapter Plate item # DL24055 is designed specifically for StrongArm Electric Winches like the item # DL25200 you purchased. It can indeed be mounted on a flat surface. The extensions on it match the pattern that's built in to the bottom of your jack. They'll secure inside the bottom of the winch housing.
I attached a couple of diagrams and pictures below so you can see how the adapter plate works.
What kind of kayaks do you have?

The mounting plate worked great on my boat trailer but I don't know about the floor of a pickup bed. Beds are usually corrugated and the plate might not straddle the corrugations properly. And with the bed not being very thick I would probably use a backer plate underneath.

I have mounted this electric winch adaptor plate to my car trailer and it works perfectly. Though the winch has some sturdy heft, it slips on to the adaptor plate easily and is safe and secure for operation. I have winched a few vintage cars on and off my trailer no problem. I have never had an issue with either the plate or the winch. Great system.

Jerred, provided the best response. I would also recommend a backing plate or large washers. Get application!!

You could mount it to the floor It might be a better idea to fashion a plate To the floor to mount it to I’ve hade decent luck with a boat winch And M18 drill driver And a winch bit adapter

What Jerrd said is just what I did when I mounted the electric winch on my boat trailer.
