Question:
Is there a cargo carrier that can also accept a ball hitch to pull a camper. So the cargo unit will set between the car and the camper.

Hi Jeffrey,
We don't have any options for a cargo carrier that can accept a ball mount to sit between the vehicle and camper. Cargo carriers are not designed with the intent to withstand the torque and force of towing, so I don't recommend going that route. If you're needing to tow your camper and use a cargo carrier at the same time, I recommend using a dual receiver ball mount instead. We have the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount with 2" Receiver for Bike Racks and Cargo Carriers part # D210 that would be able to do exactly what you're needing. It has a 2" hitch receiver and a mount for a ball so that you can fit the cargo carrier into the receiver and use whatever size ball you need for the camper to hook up to. It has a 2 1/4" drop between the receiver tube and where the ball mounts to give them some separation. The # D210 is rated for 7,500lbs, but using any adapter will reduce your trailer hitch's capacity by 50%. So, if your trailer hitch is rated for 300lbs of tongue weight, using this adapter would reduce your tongue weight down to 300lbs.
What are you wanting to carry on your cargo carrier?

I use this Curt multipurpose ball mount to carry a sturdy bicycle rack holding 2 electric bikes, while pulling my 16 foot tandem trailer hauling a Honda Rubicon and Talon. Works great! Have traveled long distances with no issues. Need to make sure the rack going into the upper receiver is rated adequately for the weight of the item.
