Question:
Hi Folks, I like your products and customer service and want to give you all a try on this: Im looking for a soft start unit for my 2026 TAB400 with a Dometic 441003.701 Cool Cat air conditioner mounted inside the trailer - not on the roof. Ive called Dometic and they dont sell one. The power specifics from the manual are as follows: Compressor lock rotor start 50 amp, fan motor lock rotor start 6.6 amps running compressor 8.9 amp, fan 2.2. Any ideas? Thank you!

Hey Rodney, thanks for reaching out. Yes, we do have a soft start that can work with the Cool Cat under bench AC on your 2026 TAB400. The Active Controls ActiveStart soft starts are what I recommend since they are more universal and can be used with really any camper or AC unit as long as it has a standard single-phase compressor. They do both plug-in and hardwired versions, so for your 30-amp camper, here is what I recommend:
- Active Controls ActiveStart Plug-In Soft Start for RVs - Surge Protection - 30 Amp # AS94FR
- Active Controls ActiveStart Hardwired Soft Start for RVs - Surge Protection - 30 Amp # AS57FR
Do you usually camp at sites with hookups? Or do you rely on generator power?

Thanks for the info Jesse. I don’t have any problems when I’m at a campsite with the 30 amp service. What I’m trying to do is set my unit up to run with a Honda EU2200i generator which is a 2200 W peak 1800 W nominal generator. It’s one of the little suitcase jobs. I’d rather have something that’s permanent and hardwired. I assume it is “Active Controls ActiveStart Hardwired Soft Start for RVs - Surge Protection - 30 Amp # AS57FR”. Does it come with detailed instructions and schematics?
