Does the 2004 Chevy SSR Cabin Air Filter Include the Retrofit Access Door?

Question:

The cabin filter you sell for 2004 SSR. Does kit have a door to install since box has to be cut to install filter. The SSR did not have replaceable filter door.

Hi Larry,

No, we do not carry the retrofit access door for the 2004 Chevrolet SSR. The cabin air filter we offer is just the replacement filter, so if your SSR has never been converted, you'll need to purchase a separate retrofit kit before you can install it.

Because the 2003 and 2004 SSR came from the factory with a sealed HVAC housing and no removable cabin air filter door, the retrofit kit is what provides the plastic access door, retaining bolt, and filter. After cutting out the factory panel and cleaning out any debris, the new door installs over the opening to create a secure, finished installation that makes future filter changes quick and easy. The nice part is that once the retrofit door is installed, you can simply reuse it whenever it's time for a new filter, replacing only the filter itself with one like the PTC Custom Fit Cabin Air Filter Charcoal, Part # 3513046C.

I completely understand wanting to have the door before making a permanent cut to the HVAC housing. Having the retrofit kit on hand first gives you everything you need to finish the installation properly and keeps the opening covered once the job is done.

Do you mostly daily drive your SSR, or does it see a lot of dusty roads? That can help determine how often you'll want to replace the cabin air filter.
