Question:
Hi there! I have a Thule 963PRO Spare Me 2 bike rack but have lost the key to it. There isnt any code on the lock for me to reference so I can order a replacement from you. The Thule website is unhelpful and just directs me to contact a Thule dealer in my area but Ive called a few of them and they told me they dont have any master set of keys to check the lock. Are you able to help me acquire a key based on just the rack name Thule 963PRO Spare Me 2 or is that an impossibility? Thanks!

Hey Andrew,
Thule has the One-Key System Lock Cylinders part # TH450200 that you can use to replace both locks on your Spare Me 2. It comes with a universal key, so if your rack is currently unlocked you can use it to remove the lock cores without drilling. It also includes two new keys that will match the new lock cores for your bike rack. The tumblers for these lock cores are extra-thick too, so it'll be a security upgrade to switch from the original cores to these as well.
If your bike rack is locked, you'll need to remove the lock cores by drilling them out. You'll want to use a small drill bit (tungsten carbide-tipped or cobalt drill bits work best) and work up to larger drill bits until the core is released and you can use a screwdriver or some pliers to remove it.
Where do you usually take your bikes out riding?

When I bought my lock sets it came with everything I needed to change the lock tumbler. No drills. It was so simple that I don’t fear having to do it again if the situation arises. I bought mine used. Came without keys.

Thanks for the helpful information. I went to a bike shop this weekend that had the Thule master set of keys and was able to cycle through those testing each key until I found the correct one and I've placed an order on your website for a replacement.

If your housing for the cylinder is plastic be careful when drilling, otherwise you might enlarge the housing which will cause the cylinder to just spin.
