Does the WackO RV A/C Silencer Really Reduce Noise and Is It Easy to Install?

Updated 07/07/2026 | Published 06/29/2026

Question:

Hey guys, I'm looking at the WackO A/C Silencer For my Dometic unit because the unit in my living room is absolutely deafening, but I have a few hesitations before dropping over $200 on it. For those who actually bought one, does it really cut down the noise ? Also, I'm a bit worried about the install is it truly a 15-minute plug-and-play job, or am I going to end up drilling new holes and dealing with peeling tape? Most importantly, does it choke out the airflow or cause the coils to freeze up over time? Appreciate any honest reviews!

Hi Ron, based on both the product design and the feedback we've received from customers, I do think the WackO A/C Silencer, part # WO54FR, is worth considering if your main goal is reducing the noise inside your RV.

Several customers have shared that after installing it they were finally able to hear the TV and have conversations without constantly turning up the volume. One customer even said they were "absolutely shocked" by how much quieter their A/C became, while another said their A/C sounded about half as loud and that the installation only took about 20 minutes.

As for the installation, it is designed to use your existing grille screw pattern for the Dometic, so there is no drilling or permanent modifications required on compatible Dometic and GE ducted air conditioners. Most people are simply removing the factory grille, installing the silencer with a Phillips screwdriver, and putting everything back together. If your ceiling assembly matches the compatible style, it really is a straightforward project.

Regarding airflow, the WackO is designed to redirect and smooth the airflow rather than restrict it. It also includes a reusable electrostatic filter that helps capture dust and debris. We have not seen reports of it causing coils to freeze due to reduced airflow when it is installed correctly and the filter is kept clean. Like any A/C filter, regular cleaning is important to maintain proper airflow.

Can I ask which air conditioner model you have in your RV? I can help confirm that the WackO will fit your specific ceiling assembly before you order it.

It does reduce the noise, but does not silence the AC unit as much as you may be expecting. The biggest advantage of the soft start is just that, to reduce the initial load on your generator or power supply to make it start easily. Would that be inside? I highly recommend the unit. It is not as easy as plug and play, but you don’t need to be an electrician to install it.

@Tony You're exactly right. A soft start like part # SSR54FR does help reduce the noise during compressor startup, but it won't make the air conditioner dramatically quieter while it's running. Its biggest benefit is reducing the initial startup surge.

Makes it sound better, you can hear the tv. Pretty easy install, there is some tape work required Overall I think it’s worth it

@Dan I really appreciate the honest feedback. It's great to hear the WackO made enough of a difference that you can comfortably hear the TV without the air conditioner overpowering everything. What kind of AC do you have?
