Can I Use Fastway Flash Force Adjustable 2" Ball Mount In 2-5/16" Receiver?

Published 06/23/2026

Question:

I have a 2020 F-250 with the larger receiver, but most of my trailers are still under 10,000 lbs. Is there any reason to use the 2-1/2" Fastway instead of just the lower cost 2" one with a reducer sleeve?

Hey Brian, since your F-250 has the larger 2-1/2" receiver, I’d go with one of the 2-1/2" Fastway Flash Force models rather than stepping down to a 2" shank with a reducer sleeve.

The # FA43FR and # FA63FR are made for 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" receivers, so they match your hitch opening directly. They also give you the higher 2-5/16" ball rating of up to 18,000 lbs, compared to 10,000 lbs on the 2-5/16" ball for the 2" receiver versions. Even if your current trailers are under 10,000 lbs, using the correctly sized 2-1/2" shank is the cleaner fit for that truck and gives you more room if you tow something heavier later. Also, the 2" with adapter sleeve will add more play in the system.

The # FA43FR gives you up to 4-1/2" of drop or rise, which is a good place to start for a stock-height HD truck. The # FA63FR gives you up to 7-1/2" of drop or rise if your truck sits higher or your trailers need more drop to ride level. Brian, if you know what drop you’re using now with your current ball mount, that’ll make the choice between those two pretty easy.
